The Wood Brothers hold the distinction of being the oldest and most venerated team in the NASCAR event. They took a chance with a rookie, named Trevor Bayne. And in the end, the surprise element of the event indeed proved to be a surprise.

Bayne thanked some veteran drivers for their support and encouragement. For without the likes of Jeff Gordon and Carl Edwards, Bayne’s training loop would not have been complete.

It is a well-known fact that driving in the NASCAR league is tough business. Trevor Bayne dwelled on the importance of staying dedicated to bring home the money. It is about making sacrifices that ultimately a trade-off into victories. And in the end, the victory compensates for all the sacrifices made, quite handsomely. 

Is Bayne the next Jeff Gordon?

It is indeed sweet music to the ears to hear that Jeff Gordon is touted to be one of the mentors of Bayne. With the win in the 2011 Daytona 500, Bayne is being compared to Gordon, and touted to be his successor, if not his replacer.

Bayne indicated that Gordon has been his childhood hero. He met Gordon before the race and was inspired by his presence. Bayne said that he even enquired about Gordon’s availability to work with him. Even though this may not happen in the immediate future, things are looking good for this to happen.
